OUR EXPERTISE

Aviation is the primary sector we operate within. Our business was founded in 1994, as a specialist sub-contractor, primarily working at Manchester Airport. Over the last 30 years, we have delivered works at virtually all of the major airfields within the UK and Ireland, accumulating a wealth of experience, and a reputation as one of the leading contractors within the sector.

We undertake a wide range of projects every year, from small-scale emergency repairs to large, multi-disciplinary capital projects. We deliver these works across major international airports, high-security defence airfields, and private estates, leveraging our key strengths and capabilities.

  • Airside Experience: We understand the unique challenges of working airside, which include access constraints, security protocols, limited possession working, and FOD management. When planning our works, we are able to draw on 30+ years’ experience of managing these challenges, to ensure safe, timely and high-quality delivery

  • Safety Focus: We understand that working within airside areas presents a number of inherent safety risks. We use our specialist experience to de-risk delivery, helping to ensure the safety of all parties.

  • Technical Knowledge: We have an in-depth understanding of the technical standards for airfield construction, and extensive knowledge of the construction materials used within the sector. This enables us to develop and deliver solutions which are robust, and compliant with all relevant sector standards.

  • Collaborative Ethos: We know that partnership working is essential for delivering works within regulated, time-sensitive environments. We collaborate with our clients, designers and stakeholders through all stages of the project lifecycle, ensuring a “one team” approach.

VICTOR FILLET CONSTRUCTION

East Midlands Airport – 2022

Allied Infrastructure delivered this £1.2M package of works for our valued client East Midlands Airport in 2022. The project involved the construction of a 1,000m2, 525mm thick concrete fillet with 150mm asphalt overlay undertaken during 07.00AM to 18.00PM temporary possession of the Alpha Taxiway at East Midlands Airport. The works were undertaken with a de-regulated ac-cess from an adjoining car park,  so as not to impact on the airport operations, other than with the taxiway closure. All works had to be completed and returned to a fully operational status at 18.00PM each day for a security sweep. This meant full compliance in terms of the side slopes, sealing of the ground and excavations.

Our scope included:

  • ECI works package with the airport to undertake survey works and assist with design analysis and comments

  • New storm drainage and associated 3 attenuation tanks to provide relief to the existing congested network

  • Removal of existing electrical and drainage service networks and infrastructure

  • Construction of the concrete fillet, broken down into 10 days of pours - which averaged 65M3 per pour

  • Use of planer to create the void for the Charcon drainage installation—planings overlaid with concrete to pre-vent FOD, which was then partially overlaid with asphalt before being cut, excavated and the Charcon laid over 4 shifts

  • Realignment of AGL fed centreline into Victor Taxiway, along with stand modifications and extensive new paint markings to facilitate the routing of new and existing aircraft
