Summary: In 2023, Allied Infrastructure was appointed to deliver a package of specialist civils associated to the re-surfacing of Newcastle Airport’s single runway, by the Principal Contractor Tarmac. This included the removal and re-installation of the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) units, as well as civils associated with the installation of the new cabling network. 

Due to the requirement to maintain airport operations during the project, the works had to be delivered over 6-hour night-shift possessions, from Sunday to Thursday each week. In addition to the tight time constraints, the weather was also challenging, with numerous shifts impacted by sub-zero temperatures. 

Our team worked closely with wider delivery team to co-ordinate our works, ensuring they were safely and effectively completed within the timescales required by the Principal Contractor. This contributed to the safe and timely handback at the end of each night-shift, in what was widely regarded as an exemplar runway re-surfacing project.
